North Shore Builders Club at North Shore middle school joins operation Christmas child project10/22/2016
The North Shore key Club is busy this new year of service with many projects. For the 2016-2017 Major Emphasis Program Project (MEP) they have selected Operation Christmas Child. The Key Club has joined forces with the Builders Club to fill shoe boxes with fun items that will be sent to orphanages world-wide. Pictured are both clubs creating and decorating spinning tops to be put into the boxes. The clubs are both sponsored by the North Shore Kiwanis Club. The North Shore key Club has joined hands with the Kiwanis Kids Club (K-Kids) who are sponsored by the North Shore Kiwanis Club to form the K Family. Pictured is the North Shore Key Club & The K-Kids at the weekly meeting held at the Sea Cliff Elementary School. To Note: The organization is Operation Christmas Child and the project is to create and send shoe boxes full of fun items to orphanages world-wide. A special thank you to the K Kids adviser, Mark Mihopulo, for his outstanding leadership for the K-Kids. The annual cancer walk took place at Jones beach on Sunday October 16th. The Key Clubbers have participated in this event for more than 20 years. This year the North Shore Key Club Team was adorned with Healing Headbands wearing them in support for all people afflicted with the disease of cancer. These headbands were made at a recent Key Club meeting that took place before the event with the help from the founders of the Healing Headbands Program, Joannie Accolla and Barbara Grapstein, who made that all possible. Pictured is the Key Club Team having fun while making a difference!!
The North Shore Key Club is supporting Operation Christmas Child, a charity that provides school supplies to orphans who need them, allowing them to attend school. Shoe boxes are filled with toys and supplies to spread holiday cheer. Funds were raised by selling handmade tops at the annual Sea Cliff Mini Mart. Each year, the North Shore Key Club runs a car wash fundraiser. The North Shore K Family joins hands with the Healing Headbands Program for 2016-2017. The Key Club will join with the Healing Headbands Program for their single service project 2016-2017. The North Shore Kiwanis Club, the parent club for the NS Key Club, has also joined hands with this group and invited Founders for Healing Headbands, Barbara Grapstein & Joanie Accolla, to a Kiwanis Club meeting. These two friends from Sea Cliff joined together to form this nonprofit organization.
This non-profit organization created only 2 years ago, was formed to create colorful head coverings that bring joy to people who are battling cancer and other serious illnesses. These headbands are paired with special laughter exercises to help people laugh …….not to make people laugh!! Together the K Family is “banding for a cause” as we move forward in the new year of service. Pictured is the North Shore Key Club officers James Mastakouris and Robert Sharkey presenting a check for $620.00, from a recent fundraiser, to Ms. Accolla & Ms. Grapstein. Joined in this presentation is current Kiwanis President Merrideth Brosnan. |
