The North Shore Key Club has a need to provide hope and help to the children, families and communities of Long Island that are homeless. The Family and Children Association (FCA) have paired with North Shore Key Club to help this cause .and assist us with our Major Emphasis Project 2017-2018. It was recorded on January 25, 2017, that there are 2,943 homeless people on Long Island. Of these 2,943 people, 1,832 are under the age of 18 (Long Island Coalition for the Homeless), which means that 62% of the homeless population on Long Island is composed of youth under the age of 18. According to Family and Children Association, 20% of Hempstead’s children live below the federal poverty line and only 40% have graduated. However, with the help of Family and Children Association, 90% of students have had the opportunity to go to college and provided more than $1,000,000 in financial assistance to those in need of assistance. Once North Shore heard the problem we wanted to answered the call!!
